Health & Wellness Co-ordinator
A Registered Psychopaedic Nurse, Sue Blackett has worked in the disability sector for more than 30 years.
During her nursing training at the former Mangere Hospital, she worked in most departments, gaining valuable experience in caring and supporting people with physical and intellectual disabilities. She has also worked alongside a Psychologist on an early intervention team for a facility providing at-home support for young children and has nursed at a 70-bed rest home.
She began working at Rescare in mid-1995, having heard that Rescare Homes Trust was delivering a new style of residential care for people with intellectual disabilities. During her years at Rescare since then, she has been a Community Support Worker and a Team Leader for various Rescare houses including, in 2004, for a new purpose-built house for young adults with high physical and intellectual needs. In more recent years, Sue was part of Rescare’s former team of Co-ordinators and, in 2019, became a Residential Service Manager with the responsibility of three houses and now Health & Wellness.
Sue has, for many years, organised Rescare’s annual ball – the social highlight of the year for many of our residents – and arranged our popular discos several times a year.
She continues to enjoy supporting Rescare’s residents to participate in activities within the community and the wider community, and to build meaningful lives.
